Comparison with the new UN46D7000

For UN46C7000

Samsung recently the successor of the UN46C7000, the new UN46D7000, time for a look what changed and if the newer model is worth the extra money.

The first and most obvious difference is the new ultra-slim bezel for a borderless viewing experience, the C7000 looked great, but the D7000 is one notch more elegant. The stand stayed the same.

From the technical side, alot changed. The dynamic contrast ratio was boosted from 6,000,000:1 to 15,000,000:1, which means more than double the contrast ratio of the older model. The screen is still edge lit, but now improved by local dimming. Think of dimming fields instead of edge lights only. In theory this is good for an even moreĀ  improved image quality, but we didn’t really find a big difference in daily use.

The biggest difference is the enhanced connectivity, the UN46D7000 supports Wi-Fi, has Bluetooth integrated and comes with 3 instead of 2 USB ports.

Overall, the new 46-Inch D7000 is your best choice if design is important to you and you need or want to connect your HDTV without cables.

If it’s all about image quality, pick the older UN46C7000 instead. The improvements in image quality alone do not really make the D7000 worth the several hundred dollars it costs more.
